My name is shir regev.
This is what I believe.
I believe we deserve a council which works for us all and treats all residents with dignity and respect.
I also believe we deserve to have a council with vision. Richland will forever be known in history for the role it played in the Manhattan Project and helping bring an end to WWII. These days we are still home to innovative employers like PNNL. So why is city council so stagnant? We have the creative minds living right here to make Richland a model city but we are hamstrung with a council which clings to the past. We deserve leadership that dares to dream and work towards big things. The mindset of doing the bare minimum to keep the lights on helps nobody.
The Richland of 60 years ago is not the city of today or of tomorrow. As Richland continues to grow we have serious challenges to face. How do we attract and retain young adults to our community while we ensure older residents have the resources they need to enjoy the quality of life they grew up with here. How do we accommodate growth and find solutions not only for housing in general but affordable housing in particular? How do we make our streets safe for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians while tackling increased commute times?
The City of Richland is nearly bursting at the seams of its allotted boundary. How do we responsibly industrial growth without sacrificing the quality of life of residents who live near the industrial zones.
These are just a few challenges Richland City Council needs to address before they become major problems. The time of blindly pursuing sprawl cannot continue.
I was born in Sunnyside. I grew up in Kennewick. Don't let people tell you my values are "West Side" values. They are my values and I am as local as you can get.
If you agree with these values, please join me and honor me with your vote.
It's time to change the discourse we are having in Richland. The future is a bright place when we choose to embrace it.
My name is Shir Regev. Let's the Richland City Council a council that works for us all.
